What are Accelerated Mobile Pages?

AMPKnown as AMP for short, accelerated mobile pages are made of stripped-down HTML resulting in much faster loading mobile pages.

AMP is an open-source initiative that was the brainchild of Google and Twitter as well as several other publishers and technology companies in an attempt to change the mobile web infrastructure and create a mobile super-highway.

Companies have sped up mobile devices with applications. Facebook released Instant Articles to make news stories load quickly in their app and Apple recently released the Apple News app – however if you’re a business who cannot afford the expensive price tag of building an app then AMP might just be the way to go to enhancing your user experience as well as score some SEO brownie points too.

How do you create accelerated mobile pages?

Creating AMP HTML doesn’t require an extensive knowledge in web development. Have a look at this tutorial if you’re interested in converting your mobile site pages into AMP HTML yourself.

If you use a WordPress site, an AMP plugin is available which takes out all the hard work – however it will only apply AMP to posts not to pages for now. Other plugins are starting to surface, personally if you don’t have the time to design AMP HTML and build AMP properly then avoid converting your mobile site for now.

For any assistance, feel free to get in touch with us here at Dimasoft.

Does AMP affect page ranking?

In short, yes – but the rank factor varies wildly. Ultimately it’s down to what the user finds compelling.

Hubspot’s article on AMP reported that “Google Senior Director of News and Social Products, Richard Gingras, spoke to advertising news site, AdAge who said that AMP is one of many features and signals Google looks at when determining rankings.”

How fast do amp pages load?

Speed improvements can vary between 7-30 times depending on the mobile coverage at the time.

How does AMP work?

  • By designing mobile pages with AMP HTML, a subcategory of HTML with only certain JavaScript available.
  • Accelerated Pages are pre-renderable but only as far as what is visible above the fold and only the least CPU-intensive elements.
  • Caching sites on Googles servers, so that a browser doesn’t need to fetch the URL every single time you send a request.

Are accelerated pages for everyone?

If you’re a publisher, yes – do it now! Especially if you have a Google News presence.

If you have a blog or regular content resource, it’s also worth your time as long as it doesn’t drain too much of your resource. As mentioned above, if you’re a WordPress user it’s fairly straightforward to start publishing AMP posts.

Remember though, AMPs only work by stripping down HTML. If your website relies heavily on dynamic elements, interactive features or multi-media content then consider other ways of speeding up your mobile site.

TLDR - five reasons to move over to AMP

  • Faster loading speeds
  • Better user experience
  • You can start implementing today
  • Google prefers them over non-AMP
  • A wide variety of supported ad networks

Whether or not AMP is here to stay or not, it’s here right now and adopting the technology sooner rather than later seems like the only logical thing to do.

51% of searches are now made on mobile devices and with Google regularly pushing AMP and mobile related articles it seems silly to ignore what is becoming a noticeable trend.

If you’re an existing Dimasoft client then expect to see AMP over the next couple of months.

Peak Body Website Design

Dimasoft have recently completed an entire overhaul of the Peak Body site and their products. Peak body is a supplier of sports nutritional products including bodybuilding supplements, weight loss supplements and energy drinks. The business that is owned by body builder John Citrone and currently being ran by his son Carlo Citrone, was in serious need of a revamp.

The website and product packaging was outdated and drastically lacked character. It now boasts a complete new look that is current in order to bring it in line with the brands competitors.

The website has a fresh new burst of colour and an easy to use navigation bar. Finding your way around the site is a breeze so that users can find exactly what they are looking for.

The new site and packaging designs aren’t all that’s different for the company though. They even have some brand new products and flavours available too. The popular Primal Paleo Bar now comes in two new high protein flavours including Wild Berry and Chocolate Orange. Two brand new flavours of Kaffeine Kick, the energy drink designed to give you a boost are also available. These include Pineapple & Coconut and Wild Berry.

We will be working with Peak Body over the next 18 months providing them with development, design and digital marketing services to further expand their brand.
